OUR FOUNDING
High Country Conservatory of Dance was founded in 1999 by Director Michelle Meehleis and her family with a clear and heartfelt mission: to provide exceptional dance education in Northern Colorado so students could pursue their dreams close to home. As the parent of eight children, Michelle spent countless hours traveling across state lines to ensure her own children trained with the highest‑level instructors in the industry. Through this experience, she recognized a need in her community and committed herself to bringing that same caliber of training to Northern Colorado.
More than twenty‑five years later, Michelle’s vision has grown into a thriving and highly respected conservatory. Under her leadership, countless dancers have been guided toward their goals—many going on to attend prestigious dance programs and appear on national television platforms. Michelle remains deeply dedicated to helping every dancer reach their fullest potential, both technically and artistically.
CURRICULUM – THE FOUNDATION OF OUR SCHOOL
A cornerstone of High Country Conservatory of Dance is a carefully designed, step‑by‑step curriculum for each style of dance. Years in the making, Michelle has worked to develop these programs through collaboration with leading artists in the industry. This comprehensive curriculum and step-by-step approach has produced extraordinary results. From the very first beginner classes through the most advanced levels, students progress through a structured program specifically designed to support their success.
Equally important, all instruction is age‑appropriate and thoughtfully tailored to meet dancers at their individual stage of development. This consistent, intentional structure allows students to build confidence, develop strong technical foundations, and grow artistically as they pursue their goals in the performing arts. Through a supportive and encouraging environment, the conservatory fosters an atmosphere where dancers not only develop a high level of technical training and artistry, but life skills such as discipline, confidence and perseverance while developing lasting friendships that will stand the test of time.
FROM SMALL TOWN TO THE BIG STAGE
Today, High Country Conservatory of Dance is recognized nationwide as a respected institution, welcoming students of all ages and backgrounds. Its dancers have been featured on national television, accepted into highly acclaimed dance programs, and toured nationally and internationally as professional performing artists—fulfilling Michelle’s dream of bringing world‑class training from a small community to the national stage.
The conservatory offers comprehensive instruction in ballet, jazz, contemporary, clogging, and tap. Each style is taught by experienced instructors using a structured, step‑by‑step curriculum that emphasizes both technical excellence and artistic expression. With professional instruction, a thoughtfully designed curriculum, and a deep commitment to artistry, High Country Conservatory of Dance supports each dancer’s individual journey—from their first steps in the classroom to their moment on the big stage.
